Linguistic Perspectives on Identity Constructions

How does social services work interact with the identity of users? In the last two colloquiums we dealt with this central question. In the first colloquium we focused on the concept of identity from a psychological viewpoint. In the following colloquium we discussed narrative identity and positioning on the basis of relevant articles. With a presentation by Sarah Torres Cajo (Leibniz Institute for German Language, Mannheim) we had the opportunity to discuss the concept of identity from an interactional perspective. The focus on identities and performative practices of self- and other-positioning from a linguistic perspective is in many ways relatable to the consideration of the consequences of social services work.
